Luterský farář Richard Wurmbrand (1909 - 2001) strávil kvůli své víře čtrnáct let ve vězeních komunistického Rumunska. Zkušenosti s totalitní mocí ho podnítily k hledání podstaty učení Karla Marxe a komunistické ideologie. Zatímco komunismus sám sebe líčí jako zastánce lidského pokroku a dobra a s bohorovnou samozřejmostí předkládá svůj ateistický pohled na svět, Wurmbrandovo bádání odhaluje pravé kořeny, kterými byli Karel Marx i otcové moderního komunismu, marxismu i socialismu inspirováni a jež sahají až k mocnostem temnoty a zla. Na základě zkoumání výpovědí, spisů i básní Karla Marxe a jeho následovníků autor ukazuje, jak "kníže temnoty" dal lidem do rukou "meč", kterým mají terorizovat národy. Zároveň odhaluje metafyzické rozměry zla totalitní moci, které jsou materialistickému světu neznámé. Wurmbrand dokazuje, že toto hnutí není jen výtvorem lidí toužících po bohatství a moci, ale že jeho cílem je - "podle satanského působení" - rozvrat a zničení lidstva.
